At the Traditional Restoration Company we have a stock of old glass and old mirror glass, and we can fit replacement panes into display cabinets or long-case clocks, or replace the old glass in a broken mirror.
George III Mahogany Bureau Bookcase
This George III mahogany bureau bookcase came into the workshop in a sorry state. It had fallen forward and much of the glass was broken. Many of the astragal parting beads were broken or missing.
The glazed doors were re-built and the astragal beading was repaired, but much of it was missing and had to be re-made. Because of the large amount of broken glass, reproduction hand-drawn glass was used to re-glaze the doors because we did not have enough matching old hand-drawn glass in our stock.
Some of the split-turned applied decorations were missing, so some new ones were turned in old matching mahogany and coloured to match.
Restoration was completed by colouring the faded surface and re-polishing the entire piece.
Our glazing service covers Windsor and Maidenhead, Ascot, Gerrards Cross, Beaconsfield, Reading, Egham, London and all areas of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.
